Unit 1 described the qualities of good learners and good teachers. It also discussed the role of the teacher and the different levels of student language proficiency as well as the importance of understanding cultural differences.
I was especially intrigued with learning that the the role of the teacher as Prompter, Observer, Mentor and Resource or Facilitator are important in ESL as I use these roles in the courses I teach to English-speaking students in the university setting. Lectures are rare in my courses and are used for foundational knowledge only. The majority of time is spent in learning teams and other projects that encourage student engagement.
