This unit reviews in detail various theories - methods and techniques - exisitng for EFL learning/teaching. Correction techniques are also presented, since doing this well requires understanding, time and experience. Individual circumstances - teacher personality, student culture and needs - determine when a particular theory has relevance or value. For this course, the ESA (Engage-Study-Activiate) method is considred most logical and effective since it brings into play all the most important factors for enaging students, motivating students, exposing students to the language and promoting discovery. I learned that ESA offers teachers a lot of flexibility in the classroom, which means it can be particularly helpful to new teachers. This unit alerted me to the need to always be researching new theories and methods - constantly reviewing and updating teaching methods and techniques.
