In this lesson I could learn about the types of materials and books we can use to teach our lessons. It's important for us to know that regarding the materials, we as teachers can consider using authentic or created materials, which can be very useful depending on our students' needs. I think for example, for groups of intermediate students and above, it can be really good to use authentic materials for reading lessons, because they are real and motivating and students can feel more encouraged when they find out they can actually understand real content; whereas created materials can be graded to lower levels, so it’s easier to adapt them to particular gorups and they can be very helpful to teach vocabulary and basic facts. When it comes to the coursebooks, they can be very useful as well, as they are prepared and tested according to the expected levels, so we don’t have to create that much, except when we want to replace or include more activities, and they can give security to students and teachers because they seem to be reliable. However, we as teachers should consider that they don’t always cover our students needs, so we must be careful and make sure we don’t base all of our lessons on them, because this can make our classes predictable and boring, besides, we might not been covering our students needs. We can always adapt coursebooks to our lessons, for example by choosing the most suitable points on it to include in our lessons and by adapting the other parts or creating new activities if necessary.
