In this unit, we focused on intonations and stress when teaching students proper pronunciation. This unit was very difficult for me since pronunciation is not something I check or think about on a daily basis. I think most people do not care about proper pronunciation as long as the message is conveyed. I did not know that intonations play a role when if you are done with a sentence or expect a reply from someone. I do see the importance of it now, especially when someone may be very monotone in their speech. I also learned the importance of where a stress is placed in a sentence as it could change the meaning of the message entirely. Lastly, this unit explored the phonetic alphabet, but it is something more complex that foreigners probably do not need to know to be successful in English.
