Conditionals and reported speech are things that the native English speaker take for granted, at least I do. Teaching these parts of speech to non-native speakers can be tricky as there are rules for it. I believe that while it is necessary to share these rules, finding a slow, step-by-step process for learning when and how to use these rules is necessary for the students to learn and become comfortable with the usage of it. It is safe to say that there will be mistakes and that even intermediate/advanced students may have some trouble understanding these. Practice, practice, practice.
