Experienced teachers may have less need for lesson planning, but an inexperienced teacher is likely to benefit from the preparation involved in planning a lesson. Planning a lesson (it is not a script) should not restrict flexibility during the lesson, rather give the (new) teacher confidence upfront that the appropriate formats and techniques have been considered for the lesson content and objectives. Planning is essentially preparation and being well-prepared will typically help with the teacher’s role as organiser and facilitator. As often occurs with planning, once the class gets going, the lesson plan serves only as a reference and the teacher can adapt to the dynamics of real-time activity and engagement. Notes during or after the class provide a record and evaluation of the teaching content and experiences, which could be useful for a number reasons.
