This unit considers which methods and techniques are the best for teaching English as a foreign language. A long history of teaching and learning English is considered, and then Harmer's Engage-Study-Activate Method (ESA) is promoted and taught. In this method, students are encouraged both to use English as well as study it, and then role-play is one common way to have them put new concepts into use in an actual life context. The best feedback and correction techniques are also discussed, and a brief section on lesson planning is included.
