Grammar is the topic addressed in Unit 2. There are common, proper, compound, abstract, and collective nouns that all help to form a sentence. Plurals are nouns that add s, or es for words that end in ch, sh, x, s. For example: cats and watches. Countable nouns: People, creatures and things that can be counted. A car, an egg, the table, the pig. Uncountable nouns: Things that can’t be counted. They cannot have a or an in front of them and can not be used in the plural; music, advice, rice, bread, water, information. Adjectives: Describe nouns – big, small. Comparisons (comparatives): Add er or the word more. Comparisons (superlatives): shortest, tallest, youngest, oldest. Adjective + est or the word most Verbs are doing words: Go, watch, play, eat, walk. Transition verbs: Eat, cook, read, study, cut, repeat, squash, make finish. Doing something with the object. Intransition verbs: Go, fall, sleep, speak, promise, cry, depart, come, arrive. Infinitives: To go, to cry, to eat – To: Denote a consequence of action. Adverbs are placed after transition or intransition verbs. Gerunds are used the same way as a noun. There are three categories of prepositions/conjunctions; place, time, and movement. Conjunctions join clauses of sentences and words of the same class.
