course books and materials are divided into two groups; authentic and created materials. both materials are very important but the level of the student and the learning activities involved largely determine the type of created materials to be used in the classroom since students find them to be more interesting and relevant. selection of these materials should be done carefully though. course books consist of student books, workbooks, teachers' books, cassettes and other published materials. there are several advantages and disadvantages of these books/materials so its important to choose a range of books that could be suitable for your group. many other factors also contribute to effective use of course books as seen in this unit. there are four different options for course book use like omit, replace, suppliment and adapt. if the teacher has the option to choose a course book he/she should bear in mind the price, availability, design, methodology etc.
