When I taught English previously, I did not have to lesson plan much as one had already been prepared for each and every class. However, I do see the advantage of planning and writing down thoughts, even if a lesson plan is provided, as you can think more thoroughly through the class and tailor it for the specific students. The written record can also be gone back to in the future to see how far a current class has come, or to look for guidance with different classes on what worked and what did not work.
