In this unit I learned all about present tense verb usage and formations. In the total of 12 tenses, there are 4 present tenses: Present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. The present simple tense is for lack of better words, the simplest tense, resulting in an affirmation formation of (subject + base form [+s/es]). Present simple tense uses the verb 'do' in the negative and question form. With Present continuous tense, the affirmation formation is (subject + auxiliary verb 'be' + verb +ing), this is used mainly to describe an action in progress, emphasize frequency of the action, refer to a regular action around a point of time. Thirdly is present perfect, with a affirmation formation of (subject + auxiliary verb 'have' + past participle), used when thinking about completed past actions, something that began in the past and is still true now or has present results. Finally is present perfect continuous, which uses affirmation formation of (subject + auxiliary ver 'have' + been + verb +ing), to relate past actions to the present. I especially found it thought provoking when I was shown common irregular past participles, because in speaking, I normally don't have a problem with converting verbs, but sometimes you hear one person say it incorrectly and you question it yourself, but it just ends up sounding incorrect anyways.
