This unit highlights some of the most common problems encountered in the classroom and ways of dealing with them. In the first lessons, it is important for the teacher to establish good rapport with the students. In doing so, the teacher has to also find out about the students to help with future planning, about the students' needs/ aspirations in English and also their English levels. appropriate and effective activities can be used like questionnaires, pass the ball game, needs analysis etc. warmers can be incorporated in the study phase to make the class fun and interesting. for different levels the teacher can use different materials or same materials but different tasks, pairing stronger students with weaker ones etc. large classes can be difficult to handle but with some teaching techniques success can be achieved. use of native language is not very advisable and if necessary should be well controlled. its also necessary to be skillful when dealing with reluctant students as it can be tricky. teachers should not ignore listening practise as it is equally important as the other skills.
