form this unit it is evident that grammar is the basis of English language although it cannot exist independently. other features of the language have to be incorporated in order to produce and use English effectively. irregardless of the level the student needs to be exposed to the language, comprehend the meaning, understand the structure and be able to practice it. grammar, vocabulary and functions of language are the main points of focus when teaching/learning a language. for each aspect there are factors to be considered for the course to be effectively taught. for vocabulary, similarity to students' own language, similarity to English words already known,spelling and pronunciation and appropriacy determine the ease or difficulty of understanding the words. introducing grammatical structures depends on meaning, use, form and patterns, and spoken and written form whereas some of the functions include inviting, refusing, agreeing, suggesting etc.
