Because students of a second language usually do not have the opportunity to naturally learn it as they did their native language, many different types of teaching methodologies have developed. While they all have their uses, this unit focuses on the Engage, Study, Activate method. Getting students to respond in class (elicitation) is an important part of ESA.
The Engage phase gets students interested. Games and other activities are used to stimulate students and warm them up for learning English. Study is where the students can learn new language points and reinforce the knowledge with exercises. Activate is a time to allow the students to freely communicate using any and all language points they can.
