In this section we learned about course books and materials that we may use in class. Course books are very helpful and useful for new teachers because it has step-by-step guides on what to teach and different ideas for in class work and homework. However, for any teacher, using solely the course book can become boring and predictable to the students, which could lead to unmotivated and unengaged students. The teacher should do their research when given a course book to use or if they get to choose the book. Either way, the teacher should be critical of the information inside, choosing only what is necessary and beneficial to the students learning. It is important to use authentic materials, like newspapers, songs, and menus, things that the native speaker would see regularly.
