This unit outlined the changing factors that need to be considered when teaching to special groups. I learned that when teaching beginners, it is wise to be a simple as possible, and visual as possible, and that accuracy is less important at this stage compared to getting them comfortable speaking in a different language. I learned what needs to be considered when teaching one on one compared to group work. I also learned that when teaching children, who often have intrinsic curiosity, but also have smaller attention spans, leading to necessary alterations to the style, including more repetition, more visual activities, and slower progression. I was also interested to learn about teaching English specifically to business people need it to make them more effective within their jobs.
