We have 5 specific groups for teaching 1-beginner 2-inividuals 3-young learner(yls) 4-business English 5-monolingual or multilingual We divide beginners for some sub division: Absolute beginners false beginners Adult beginners Beginners without the roman alphabet Top ten item to bear in our mind is in teaching : 1-keep it simple 2-visual rather than verbal 3-get the students talking 4-use questions and repetitions 5-use pair work 6-be supportive and often praise 7-respond to individual needs 8-be patient 9-paly lots of game\ 10 –don’t over correct Teaching individuals which is called teaching one to one has its positives and negetivies : the positive aspect is there is only one level and negative point is that the class is not dynamic and teacher sometimes participate in activity . But before starting the class teacher should 1-do a needs analysis 3- should concentrate on students needs and interest 4- cover all skills 5-teacher should vary his/her activities and approach 6-vary the skill and approach For teaching young learners teacher should consider 1-constantly praise them 2-have a lot of repetition 3-simple and slow language 4-reference individuals 5- Prepare lots of activity 6-keep the class fun Here we have some actions which we should do and don’t Action which we should do : 1-always use English in the class 2-speak slowly 3-use gesture and mime 4-play game as often as possible Actions we should not do in the class : 1-we should not use L1 language in the class 2-we should not put the individuals on the spot 3- we should not expect them to have all materials 4-we should not afraid of making fun of ourselves . For keeping discipline in the class 1-We should ourselves aware of students problem 2-change the dynamic of class as often as possible 3-we should be fair and consistent 4- change activity as possible We should not do below mentioned items in class for keeping YLS discipline 1-not to be inconsistent 2-we should respect the rules and avoid breaking rules over selves 3-we should not use physical punishment at all 4- we should not be angry In Business English which most of teachers have anxiety and fear , we must remember that 1-90% of BE language is general English 2-we are not going to teach them Business Business English consist of 3 groups Teaching 1 –for individuals 2-when company employee comes to our school 3-when teacher is going to their school In Business English problem should be 1-tiredness as employees are working from morning till evening . 2-mixed ability as the students comes from single department 3- attendance which can be erratic 4- motivation which will vary Typical process in teaching Business English Level test Needs analysis Group needs negotiation Plan out the syllabus Test and evaluate progress Post course evaluation We should remember that in starting the course we should 1-use our ignorance of their job to our advantages 2-find what their job is 3- be professional 4- keep records We should not do below mentioned items in our teaching: 1-we shouldn’t talk about people 2-expect our students to bring every things 3- use their native language Monolingual students vs multilingual students Monolingual students all have the same L1 like teaching English in Thailand for Thai students Multilingual students have different L1 in the international school like teaching for students in England Monolingual advantages and disadvantages are : Advantages : Students have common difficulties in the class Culture is similar for all students Can help each other in L1 Disadvantages are : Will try even at higher levels to use their L1 language Less natural exposure to English Multilingual advantages are They have no common language They have variety of experience More exposure to L1 And their disadvantages are : No common difficulties Different ethnic backgrounds
