Unit 6 which is about the past tense , is like the simple present tense in terms of structure with a little differences in auxiliary verb. The structure is: subject + verb+ed or past tense of irregular verb For example: I ate banana last day or I studied last day. By using did we can make our sentence to question form? Did I eat Banana last day? To form the sentence in negative form we use NOT in front of DID. For example: It didn’t rain. The simple past tense talks about action or situations in the past. Past continuous: The structure is : subject + was/were/+verb + ing For question form: was/were + subject+ verb+ ing For negative form: subject + was/were+ not + verb + ing With a point in time the past continuous expresses an action that began before the time given and probably continued after it .The exact beginning and end of the action is unknown. For example: at 12:00 we were eating lunch in the park. Past perfect: The structure is: subject+ had+ past participle For question form: had + subject + past participle Negative form: subject + had+ not+ past participle The past perfect expresses an activity that was completed before another activity or time in the past Past perfect continuous : Subject + had + been = Verb + ing Question form: had + subject + been + verb + ing Negative form: subject+ had + not + been + verb+ ing The past perfect progressive emphasizes the duration of an activity that was in progress before another activity or time in the past
