Many students expect there to be a textbook to accompany their lessons. They provide a good foundation for them to track their progress and gives them a sense of stability. However, insturctors need to be careful that they themselves do not rely entirely on the books they use to carry out their lessons. Sometimes there will be materials or lesson activities that are not suitable for the students and they may need to be omitted or changed to suit the needs of the students. It is perfectly fine and encouraged for a teacher to create their own materials in conjunction with the texts they use to vary the lessons.
