This is an important unit as it discusses the introduction of vocabulary into the lesson and how to choose which words to include, and how they are taught. Vocabulary gives the students more tools to express how they feel in greater detail. Without vocabulary, a student will become bored and disinterested in a language.
There are many different ways to approach teaching new vocabulary. One is the straight arrow method in which a teacher will being with engaging the students with fun activities that usually involve visuals and casual interaction. The class will then move onto the study phase where the students will solve writing problems and use a more thoughtful approach to understanding the vocabulary. And finally, the class will use all their new knowledge in a class activity such as role play or a class discussion.
These types of structures will help students learn new vocabulary from different angles. If the class is too strict and without surprises, then the students will lose interest and motivation.
