The content of unit one helped me gain a basic understanding of the importance of the relationship between the learners and teachers, as well as the different roles that teachers take in the classroom. Prior to studying this unit, I knew that teachers are supposed to be able to take on a variety of roles in the classroom but I never had been able to put a name to each of them before. I hope to be able to use a variety of these roles in my own teaching to be able to both make my students feel motivated and comfortable to try speaking English even if they may make mistakes. I hope to incorporate more activities where I am just a facilitator in the classroom because I think it is important for the learners to not only communicate with me, but with their classmates as well, as this will give them new perspectives and encourage them to use more English.
