I have learnt that asking questions to learners who you are familiar with or only those whose name you remember, is detriment to to you as a teacher, it also makes the rest of the learners less likely to want to participate. Equally important, although learners should be motivated to learn the language, you as a teacher have a big role to play in motivating the learner and making your lessons worthwhile.
