The three primary forms of new language lessons each have to take into consideration learnability and breakdown of their meaning, formation, pronunciation/spelling, and usage. They also require different lesson plan structures, as each needs different degrees of practice and implementation and will likely be taught at phases relative to each other. Thus, vocabulary favors a more straightforward approach and is usually the building block to make structure and function lessons possible, while the other two might need some back and forth between repeated study and activation to calibrate the students' usage and understanding.
I really appreciated the sample lesson breakdowns, and their appropriacy to the types of language used. Considering that I have mostly been required to teach vocabulary and grammar in the same lesson, I realize that what I've had to to do up until now is quite far from the ideal way to teach language structures. Additionally, the idea of teaching language functions separate from grammar is brilliant, and I intend to employ it thoroughly in the future (especially with the noted Patchwork and Boomerang structures).
