A teacher must maintain a classroom where he or she has the right to teach and each student has the right to learn. In an EFL classroom, student talk time is very important, so the teacher must be extra careful about his or her own use of words, how students are seated, how they are divided into groups, and how they are treated in order to maximize the time in the classroom. A good teacher is in command of the situation but in a kind and confident manner, not an angry and emotional manner. Being aware of how to use eye contact, gestures, and the voice to both teach content and maintain a healthy level of classroom discipline will allow for rapport between the teacher and students and among the students themselves. The actual learning will be much more successful in this environment of mutual respect and oneness of purpose.
