This unit on managing classes covers teacher communication skills using eye contact, voice and gesture. It explains the best use of each component in class and problems that may arise if used incorrectly or too much. This unit also covers classroom groupings as different groupings are suited to different activities and stages of learning. For example pair and group work are very useful in the study and active stage as it gives more opportunity for students to talk. Classroom arrangement is also explained in this unit describing the different arrangements possible for different class sizes and the positives and negatives of each one. The unit also details student talk time versus teacher talk time and why each is important, but also why more student talk time is encouraged. Teacher communication skills are highlighted once again in this unit as it explains how to build good rapport in class, giving effective instructions to students and maintaining discipline through preventative and responsive methods.
