This chapter made me think about the merits of receptive and productive skills but I think the material was weighted towards receptive skills. Certainly the merits of reading and listening were expounded in greater detail than those of speaking and writing. I should think that a balance of all four is ideal but not entirely realistic since every classroom dynamic will be different and it seems critical for a teacher to be adaptive and responsive to the students.
