I think that is important to tell the students the importance and goals of the exams. Sometimes they could be intimidate only by the word without having any idea why there are meant for. If we can explain that the objetive is to know how much they have learned and how to overcome difficulties in the new language, rather than let them percibe if they are Smart or stupid, they Will prepare it better, or at least be less nervous about.
