Unit two focuses on the use of grammar and the different parts of speech in English language. unit two is meant to help us to recognize and classify the different parts of speech. We are introduced to the most basic structure or form of a sentence which usually comprises of a subject and verb. however, the structure or form of a sentence becomes more complex once we learn the different parts of speech.
The eight parts of speech include: nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions/conjunctions.The part of speech indicates how the word functions in the meaning as well as grammatically within the sentence. It is of importance to know the different types, forms and rules which these parts of speech undergo when when being used in a sentence. For example: there are two main types of verbs which can either be transitive or intransitive.English verbs have four principal forms: simple base, past simple, past participle and present participle.
