Unit 12 built on Unit 11 by discussing how to teach productive skills. The productive skills are speaking and writing. As with teaching anything else, it is important that teachers help elicit the desire from students to learn, as well as to communicate in English. There are both accuracy and fluency activities. Accuracy activities focus on getting students to use the language correctly. Fluency activities are not as focused on ensuring that everything students say is 100% correct, but rather are meant to give students time to practice. It is very important that teachers encourage student interaction in order to improve their productive skills. Teaching writing focuses on handwriting, spelling, layout/punctuation, and creative writing. Games not only help to engage students, but when correctly tied to the lesson objectives they aid in learning as well.
