Unit 7 was all about teaching new language. This unit went over vocabulary, grammar, and functions. First the unit covered how to select vocabulary. It is important to consider the appropriacy of the vocabulary to the students, as well as the task, the frequency and coverage of the words, and the vocabulary's teachability. There are various ways to teach vocabulary. You can use realia, miming, pictures, contrast, discussion, and discovery. It is important for students to understand the meaning of vocabulary words, how/when it is appropriate to use them, grammar, how the vocabulary words interact with other words, spelling, and pronunciation. In order to study vocabulary words teachers can produce items such as gap-fills, matching exercises and word searches. Role-plays and debates are helpful activities to use during the activate portion of the lesson. In terms of grammatical structures, students need to know the words' meaning, how and when the words are used, the forms and patters, and their spoken and written form. Finally, language functions include inviting, refusing, agreeing/disagreeing, and suggesting. This unit covered vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions.
