Unit 20 was titled troubleshooting. This unit went over common issues that TEFL teachers encounter. It started off by going over first lessons with students and what to do versus what not to do. It is really important to establish good report with students during the first lesson. This means taking time to get to know them, informally assess their English ability, and make the lesson fun and engaging. Then the unit covered good warm ups such as pictionary or hangman. Oftentimes teachers will have mixed-ability classes. Unit 20 gave ideas of how to best support all language levels in one classroom. The unit finished up by reviewing some tips of what to do with larger class sizes, when students want to use their native language, what to do with reluctant students, and finally how to handle difficulties with listening texts.
