In this Unit I have learned Present tenses. Present Simple is a tense which we use for describing habitual and routine actions, permanent situations and facts, commentaries, directions and instructions, newspaper headlines, present stories, historical sequences. Formula for Present Simple Tense is subject+base form (s/es) for example I drink hot water every morning. Negative: subject+ do/does+not+base form for example I don't drink hot water every morning. Question: do/does + subject+ base form Do you drink hot water every morning? Present Continuous is a tense which we use to talk about an action that is in progress at the time of speaking, to talk about temporary action that is not necessarily in progress at the time of speaking, to emphasize very frequent actions, background events in a present story, to describe developing situations, to refer to a regular action around a point of time. Affirmative: subject+be+verb ing for example I am playing guitar. Negative form: subject+be+ not+ verb ing for example I am not playing guitar. Question: be + subject + verb ing for example Am I playing guitar? Present Perfect is a tense which we use when we talk about finished actions/states that happened at an indefinite time, when we are thinking about completed past actions, when we talk about something which began in the past and is still true now, when we describe past actions with present results. Affirmative: subject+ have/has+ past participle/ed for example I have been in Paris. Negative: Subject+have/has+not+past participle She has never been abroad. Question: Have/has + subject + past participle for example Have you ever been abroad? Present Perfect Continuous is a tense which we use to describe activity which began and still last, to describe a recently finished uninterrupted activity which has a present result. Affirmative: subject+have/has+been+verb ing for example We have been dancing. Negative: subject+have/has +been + verb ing for example We have not been dancing. Question: Have/has+subject+been+verb ing for example have we been dancing?
