In this unit we review the past tenses; simple past, past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous. These are the four tenses out of the twelve tenses in the English language used to express happenings or actions within past times.
Now that we have seen the present tenses and the past tenses we should note that there are similarities in the way the tenses are formed. For example, for the continuous tenses, if the verb to be is in the present tense, then we know it is a verb in the present continuous tense, and if the verb to be is in the past tense, we know we came across a verb in the past continuous tense.
