Unit 4 contained a breakdown of the four present tenses which are present simple, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. At first, I though it would be a quick unit because of the small lesson page number (18 pages), but I was surprised by the depth of understanding on the subject that is needed in order to teach it effectively. To teach this well, one needs to know the grammar, memorize the usages, recognize common mistakes, learn how to explain the mistakes and correct usage to the student, and finally learn different activities for the longterm retention of these particular tenses. It was a packed unit, but one I feel I learnt a lot from. Also, the task sheet exercises gave me a better understanding of what an ESA lesson might be like in theory. Which was great!
