This unit was very informative on how to troubleshoot common problem situations with students. It also gave me a lot of ideas on how to make a first lesson exciting and fun! For example, I can establish rapport with my class by doing questionnaires or even playing a pass the ball game. A common obstacle when teaching the English language would be when I have different levels in my class. This unit gave me pointers on how to overcome that obstacle such as, using different materials and pairing stronger students with weaker students. This unit also gave me many ideas on how to handle larger classes. For example, worksheets and group work are effective when teaching larger classes. I feel confident when dealing with reluctant students or knowing when it is appropriate for students to use their native language. Overall, this unit was great in helping me with how to effectively control special groups.
