This unit provided an overview of conditionals and reported speech. The first segment introduced the five variations of conditionals: zero, first, second, third, and mixed conditionals. Along with each of these subsections, examples were provided, finally followed by common mistakes made by ESL students when learning about and using conditionals. Next, the lesson went over how direct speech is made into reported speech. This area is a bit confusing at first-glance since many changes in wording are subtle even to a native English speaker. The diagram provided for time expressions was very useful to comprehend this subject as a visual learner. Ultimately, from this lesson, I learned that I must take the time to slowly and gradually introduce these concepts to students as they become more comfortable with the nuances of the English language. The activities provided will also be helpful in implementing these concepts as they provide natural and engaging ways to put them into practice.
