Unit 14 talks about the role of course books and lesson materials in the classroom. Books offer a great resource for teacher to have structure since they offer a syllabus and a progression of tested lessons, but they should not be overused. Balance between course book material, and authentic and created material is essential to have an effective lesson that is based around the students needs and interests, not on the book. Authentic materials should be incorporated if the students level is appropriate when possible (to expose students to everyday English), and created materials are more suitable for lower English student levels.
