It seems so simple and obvious that teaching grammar and vocabulary would come naturally, but this lesson taught me that there are untold numbers of ways to use the structure of a lesson to help students learn these things. Knowing which words to choose to teach them is always a challenge for me as I use a syllabus prepared by someone else. It does not help a lot with the students' need for the terms. They often do not care because they did not have any say or the words are too difficult. I never knew that the ESA model worked for this type of lesson as well as others. There is no single way to teach these things, and understanding the model and seeing examples within the material has really helped me to get a pretty good hold on things.
