This first unit highlights the fact that it is important to take many factors into consideration while teaching. These factors come from both sides, teacher and learner. From the teacher's standpoint, several points were listed that he/she needs to keep in mind. Examples of this would be to both a manager, controlling the classroom, while other times being passive and letting the students learn and explore on their own, only using prompting if necessary. The teacher also has the role of setting the example in the classroom, of not only presenting the use of proper English, but also as a professional which can be respected. As for the student, they are responsible for being an active learner. This can range from open mindedness, giving the teacher their full attention, participation, and inquiring about things they do not understand. Both student and teacher need to successfully and continually work to fulfill these roles, to make the most positive learning experience. I think this unit was helpful as it reminds the teacher to ensure an even balance in all roles.
