The content gave a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between teachers and students in a classroom. I thought it was useful to study both the teacher and the student and how both sides need to be willing, comfortable and present in order for the student to understand the information that the teacher is trying to get across. I thought the section on younger students versus adult learners was particularly interesting as they both have their strengths and weaknesses. For example, the lesson spoke about while adult learners generally have more life experience and motivation compared to young learners, they can be more nervous as they could be self conscious about their age and have a fixed view about how teaching should be carried out. However, while young learners may not have the degree of motivation that adult learners do, they have not had as much life experience and are more open minded when it comes to learning new things as their world and language views have not been developed yet. Overall, this unit taught me that a teacher has many roles to play in a classroom and in order to figure out the correct one, they need to realise what each individual student needs and adapt their teaching style from there.
