Unit 15 covered various test forms including placement, progress, diagnostic, and practice tests. It also introduced the most commonly used external examinations. Evaluation of students is a necessary part of language instruction as it will help the students progress in their learning by providing accountability while also signaling students’ level of comprehension. I appreciate how this lesson took the time to explain the reasoning behind each test category, as they all serve very distinct purposes. Because tests and examinations are often a stressful component of classroom learning, it is important to properly prepare students, supporting and encouraging them along the way. I especially enjoyed the sample placement test provided as it demonstrated to me how a placement test must cover various areas of comprehension while also including a more personal component.
