This unit gave me an important overview of what and how to teach English to non-native learners. I now understand that there is much more to teaching vocabulary, grammar, language functions, or any other aspect of language, than I thought. Teaching vocabulary, grammar, and other parts of English, involves carefully selecting the material beforehand, and a great deal of attention should be given to how useful the material will be to the students, and how easy or challenging it may be to learn/teach. In addition, I really liked how this unit tied back to things that I learned in other units, specifically the ESA method of teaching. My memory was refreshed on the structure of a 'straight-arrow' ESA lesson versus that of a 'patchwork' lesson or a 'boomerang' lesson, and demonstrating how these structures can be used to teach a specific lesson like a vocabulary class or a grammar class was incredibly useful as well.
