I found this unit the most challenging so far. As a native English speaker I didn’t realize there were so many different future tenses and that the circumstances and context often dictate which tense/tenses would be the most appropriate to use. It was particularly interesting to learn that the present simple and the present continuous tenses could be used to express the future. For example, referring to timetables we can say: The train leaves at 9am. Or concerning future arrangements, I am going for a drink later. I could see how students could easily confuse the present continuous and the be going to + verb future tenses. For example, I am going to play football this afternoon (be going to + verb) or I am going out this afternoon (present continuous) are very similar sentences. I imagine that it is something that would be studied with higher level classes.
