In this unit, I gathered a greater understanding of how the English language functions as a linear structure through the manner in which the unit moves you across sentences, pointing out the different parts of speech and how they interact or change each other. I feel this unit has given me good insight into how I, as an instructor, can approach teaching the parts of speech through this more bare bones approach to the English sentence. Finally, this unit has made me reflect on my own weaknesses when it comes to concrete examples of parts of speech and challenged me to not fall into knee jerk responses to why something is correct in a sentence.
