There are a range of existing teaching methodologies and they have their pros and cons. Jeremy Harmer created the "ESA" Engage Study Activate approach that incorporates all the teaching methodologies and the ESA method can be used in various ways. It should always start with the "Engage' process to peak student's interest in the subject, and end with the "Activate" process to provide an overview of the lesson being taught.
Students will be able to evaluate their progress through feedback. It is important to be positive in the feedback instead of being harsh and critical. The teacher - student correction should be the last resort used when a student has made an error as it inhibits the students to think about the problem and self correct. Corrections should also only be used during the study phase of the lesson.
