A good teacher needs to be enthusiastic, organised, flexible and prepared to manage the classroom. Teaching should flow seamlessly, therefore, preparation beforehand and good record keeping is paramount. Students get most of each lesson if the lessons are planned. Planning a lesson should not be over-planned for lack of flexibility, nor under-planned for lack of direction. REASON of a LESSON PLAN: 1. AID: "What I expect the students to achieve at the end of the lesson!" There are too many point to cover in a lesson and ideally a 'lesson plan' gives direction. By logically planning the lesson's structure - writing down the objectives of the lesson, personal aims as a teacher, anticipated problems and solutions, a teacher is preparing to 'manage' her/his class. Also taking into account, the level language point, number of students and location. The lesson's procedure has to flow through the ESA stages and within the time alloted. 2. DOCUMENT: The plan helps me to keep on target and is a reference during lessons. (while still maintaining flexible and responding to the needs of the class) e.g. if students are having a good time, it is okay to 'extend the task time' and maybe then postpone other missed task to a later lesson. 3. RECORD KEEPING: Lesson plans act as a kept record of the curriculum covered and materials used. Ideally, lesson plans are recorded content for my class that I may handover to another teacher to cover my class if/when the need arises. FORMATTING A LESSON PLAN Pretty much up to the individual's choice, as long as it's 'accurate' record keeping. - Simple enough to refer to during the lesson. - A logical structure so I can follow through the stages and maintain the flow. - A balanced way to format activities aiming at STT or for TTT to maximise fleuncy. - Time recorded on each stage is advantageous to stay on target. - Activities will flow seemlessly giving room for flexibility. A well organised sequence of lesson plans with a varied mixture of activities, gives students the opportunity to boost their skills in new language fluency, orally and in writing. As a teacher the need for feedback is crucial too. There's always room for improvement. Monotoring on weak and strong points will help me develop successfully. Be skilled and make it enjoyable.
