I always felt that classroom management was a strength for me as a teacher, but this lesson showed me that while I do use quite a bit of what is in the lesson, there is so much that I did not realize I was missing. I was shocked to learn that eye contact can be such a hazard if used incorrectly. I often stare at a student who is misbehaving, and it rarely works. Lesson learned. I also did not realize that there were so many ways or reasons to give students the time to talk. I often deal with students talking long before it is their time to do so, and this causes me to talk more, which is not a good thing, according to this lesson. I also use some discipline that is considered off-limits such as shouting or losing my temper with unruly students. I am glad this lesson was provided because it proved to me that I have a lot to learn and a long way to go before I am really a classroom manager.
