This unit elaborated on various forms of past tenses. First, past simple was explained, followed by past continuous, past perfect, and finally, past perfect continuous. This lesson was quite straightforward and similar to the present tense unit. I especially appreciate the clear “usages” section under each type which served as a helpful way to recap their functions in a logical manner. The sample activate stage teaching ideas are also useful for reinforcement of these concepts when it comes time for me to teach them in the classroom. One thing I learned was the peculiarity of irregular verbs. While this is something I generally do not give any thought to, this unit reminded me of the fact that this will likely be a big area of confusion and frustration for English language learners.
