This unit covered the four different aspects of the present tense, how to form each one, and what their typical usages are. The present simple form is used for habits and routines, permanent situations, etc. The present continuous form utilizes the auxiliary verb "be" as well as the gerund form of the base verb. This form is used for actions that are occurring at the moment of speaking, to emphasize recurring actions, or to describe developing situations. The third is the present perfect, which uses the auxiliary verb "have" as well as the present participle of the verb. An example of such is I have written, I haven't written, or Have I written? Lastly there is the present perfect continuous. This involves the auxiliary verb "have", the word been, and the gerund form of the verb. It is used for recently completed actions or an ongoing activity.
