Speaking and writing are the productive components skills. In order to be successful with the students and give the students the best opportunity for learning, the teacher needs to help ensure the students' desire to learn and communicate. Speaking can be broken down into accuracy and fluency activities. When working on fluency, it is important that the teacher not jump in and correct mistakes. Drilling and prompting activities are good for accuracy skills. Teaching contractions of the English language will be necessary and important, as other languages do not have them. We need to teach proper spelling, and I think go over homophones/homonyms. Handwriting definitely needs to be legible both on the students and teachers behalf.
